Apple, manufacturers of the popular computers, iPods and iPhones has released detailed information on the carbon footprint of its products and operations.
Apple's comprehensive website breaks down the company's 10.2 million tonne footprint, which includes facilities emissions, manufacturing, transportation, recycling and product use.
With this release Apple has improved on the emissions reporting recently completed by competitors Dell, which received criticism from the Wall Street Journal last year for not including manufacturing, transportation or product usage in its emissions and offset reporting.
In addition to a breakdown of the companys footprint by operational sector, Apple has also released detailed reports of the emissions from each of its recent product lines. Every Mac, Macbook, iPod and iPhone produced by Apple has a brief but detailed environmental report, including greenhouse gas emissions over its expected life-cycle.
As the company that first popularized USB, wireless networking, portable MP3 players and touch-screen mobile phones, Apple has set the bar very high for the environmental reporting in the electronics manufacturing industry.
