Reducing E-Waste: mobile phone chargers

The European Commission is planning to force the mobile phone industry to adhere to a single standard for mobile phone chargers in order to reduce waste.

In an interview with Deutsche Welle, European Commisioner for Industry Gunther Verheugen said that he's had enough with the ridiculous lack of standardization for the simple mobile phone recharger.  Stating that he'd rather see the industry develop such a standard voluntarily, Verheugen said that the European Union has the legal and the political means to force a standard upon them if necessary.
